Explanation of the Current Tax Situation in Lee County, Georgia

Posted on

The State of Georgia recently passed a law which allows local counties, cities, and school boards to limit value increase to all homeowners with a homestead exemption (House Bill 581).

The Lee County Board of Commissioners opted in to the new law. This means that your home value will be locked in at the 2024 (not the new 2025) value and will only increase at the rate of inflation as determined by the Georgia Department of Revenue.

The County Board of Commissioners approved a rollback of the county millage rate from 12.38 to 12.317. As a result, your county tax this year (for homeowners with a homestead exemption) will be slightly less than last year.
